Classic Rum Punch with Lemme: Cocktail of the Month
Weekend or no weekend, we all deserve an alcoholiday, right? And what better than trying new cocktails each time! For this month, we thought of bringing out something extra fun and super enthusiastic. Cocktail of the month goes to the classic and Rum Punch Cocktail. It is believed that the word punch is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘five’ as this cocktail was originally made with five specific ingredients namely alcohol, sugar, lemon juice, water, and tea or spices.
The drink soon made its way from England to the West Indies where it acquired its current tropical flavor. Native island fruits lent themselves perfectly to rum punch. Their natural sweetness has always been a perfect match for all kinds of rum. With every sip, this cocktail is going to make you feel like you are on a vacation. Throw away your worries, sit back, and simply make some best memories with this simple rum punch recipe.
Before we tell this super cool recipe, here’s a mantra to keep in mind while making rum punch: One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak. This means it is made with: one part lime juice, two parts sweetener, three parts rum, and four parts water. There, you have found the trick to make the best rum punch ever.
Ingredients
• 175ml freshly squeezed orange juice
• 75ml freshly squeezed lime juice
• 150ml lemon rum Lemme
• 50ml sugar syrup
• A dash of grenadine syrup
• A dash of Angostura bitters
• Ice cubes, to serve
• Generous pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
• 2 thick slices of orange, to garnish
• Maraschino cherries, to garnish
Method
STEP 1
Pour the juices, rum, sugar syrup, grenadine, and Angostura bitters into a large jug and give it a good stir. Pop into the fridge to chill for 1 hr.
STEP 2
Serve over ice cubes, sprinkle over the nutmeg and garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry, speared with a cocktail stick.
Rum punch is like a chameleon, it can change to suit your tastes! If you are going to make this in advance and for a cocktail party, freeze some pineapple juice in ice cube trays and add this to the pitcher or your punch bowl to add flavor. You could even freeze small slices of oranges, lemons, or limes in your pineapple juice cubes!
